BEBO Arch Full Scale Load Test in Thailand

05.08.2025

Robustness and reliability verification of the BEBO arch system under heavy loading conditions.

This month marks the installation of the 19th BEBO Arch Bridge as part of the new Double Track Railway connecting Den Chai to Chiang Rai in northern Thailand. These elegantly designed arch bridges allow for the passage of local traffic and waterways under the new rail corridor.

In compliance with State Railway of Thailand (SRT) requirements, the structural performance of the arch design was verified through full-scale load testing on one of the completed BEBO Bridges. A test load of 126 metric tons, representing the design rail load, was applied directly above the crown of the arch at minimal overfill height. Displacement measurements were recorded at selected points along the interior surface of the arch.

The recorded displacements corresponded with the anticipated values derived by our experienced engineering team. Notably, these measured deflections were substantially smaller than those predicted by 3D Finite Element Analysis, demonstrating the robustness and reliability of the BEBO arch system even under heavy loading conditions.

This successful test represents a significant technical milestone for BEBO in Thailand. We extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who has contributed to making it happen—special thanks to PPE Machtron and Rubi Railtec South East Asia!
